When life gets stressful, the temptation is strong to just shut down or tune out. And there’s no shortage of quick ways to numb the mind, from scrolling through Instagram, gaming, online shopping (for things we don’t need) to happy hour drink specials. But those distractions rarely have a lasting effect, and often, they exacerbate the problem. Enter breathing exercises and cryotherapy.
Focusing on your breath can help quell anxiety and provide a serious dose of calm to both the body and mind, with benefits that last beyond the initial dopamine hit. Best of all, you can practice many types of breathwork.
For busy individuals, a breathwork and cryotherapy session can be a game-changer, offering a range of benefits to help you thrive amidst a hectic schedule.
Cryotherapy at Expand Health is an invigorating, whole body treatment that takes mere minutes. Step into a chamber and experience an ice-cold mist swirling around you at a maximum of -180°C for up to 3 minutes, causing a reduction of tissue temperature and core body temperature. This activates the nervous system through rising norepinephrine levels – essential in the regulation of attention, cognitive function and stress reactions.
Here are four key advantages:
Quick relaxation and stress relief: Breathwork techniques, such as deep diaphragmatic breathing or specific rhythmic patterns, can activate the relaxation response and calm the nervous system. Full body Cryotherapy triggers the release of endorphins and offers an instant mood lift, alleviating stress and enhancing overall well-being.
Enhanced focus and mental clarity: Breathwork exercises involve focused attention on the breath, which can help improve concentration and mindfulness. This is beneficial for enhanced productivity, and mental clarity. Cryotherapy, which stimulates blood flow and oxygen delivery can further boost mental clarity, helping you to stay sharp, make decisions efficiently and be more productive.
Increased energy and revitalization: Fatigue is a common challenge if you have an endless to do list. Breathwork helps optimize oxygen intake, providing an energizing effect. Cryotherapy takes it up a notch by exposing the body to extremely cold temperatures, promoting alertness and an even heightened energized state.
Accelerated recovery and reduced inflammation: The demands of a busy lifestyle generally take a toll on the body. Cryotherapy can alleviate muscle soreness and inflammation, while breathwork can promote relaxation and optimize oxygen flow, aiding the body’s natural healing processes.
A breathwork and cryotherapy session together can deliver significant benefits in a relatively short amount of time. Breathwork techniques can be practiced in just a few minutes, and cryotherapy sessions typically last a few minutes. This means that even with a packed day, you can fit in these practices to get a powerful energy boost, enabling you to tackle your demanding schedule with increased vitality.
