What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)?

Category: HBOT

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber. The increased pressure allows your body to take in higher amounts of oxygen, which can benefit various health conditions. HBOT is commonly used to treat wounds that are slow to heal, but it has also shown promise in treating conditions such as decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning, and radiation injuries. During an HBOT session, you will be placed in a chamber that can be pressurized to two to three times the normal atmospheric pressure. This pressurized environment allows your lungs to take in a higher concentration of oxygen, which is then transported throughout your body. The increased oxygen levels promote healing by stimulating the growth of new blood vessels, reducing inflammation, and boosting the immune system.
